Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid: The Paradise of Siam 2020 boasts over 880,000 of the nation’s incredible orchids in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s 88th Birthday Anniversary
Siam Paragon, in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Horticultural Science Society of Thailand, Department of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension, Royal Horticultural Society of Thailand, holds Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid: The Paradise of Siam 2020 with the majestic orchid exhibition featuring over 880,000 orchids from nine genera in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s 88th Birthday Anniversary on 12 August 2020.
The special highlight of the orchid exhibition is the rare and priceless Black Lady Slipper’s orchid showcased at this year’s Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid only. Moreover, there are orchids from nine genera available for sale to support orchids farmers affected by COVID-19 outbreak, as well as many other activities such as exhibitions, workshops and handicrafts from The Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand and The Support Arts and Crafts International Center of Thailand (Public Organization). Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports presided over the opening ceremony on Thursday 6 August 2020 at 14.30 hours at Hall of Fame, M Floor, Siam Paragon. Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid: The Paradise of Siam 2020 will be held until 12 August 2020 at Siam Paragon.
Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid is one of the country’s biggest orchid exhibition and has been held for 10 consecutive years to uphold Siam Paragon’s reputation as the world-class shopping destination. The exhibition is held with support from business partners including Bangkok Bank PCL., Advanced Info Service PCL., Proud Real Estate PCL., Porsche Thailand by AAS Auto Service Co., Ltd., Yves Rocher (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Nestle (Thai) Ltd.
Siam Paragon and Paragon Department Store is blooming with the beauty of over 880,000 orchids from all nine genera, including rare ones, crafted into sculptures in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s 88th Birthday Anniversary on 12 August 2020. Thailand’s leading florist Golf-Pitag Hangsajara converted Vertical Garden on M floor of Siam Paragon into the ultimate orchid sculpture of two two-meters-tall kneeling albino elephants sculpture adorn with decorative embellishments to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s Birthday Anniversary. The centerpiece is surrounded by a luscious orchid forest and a panorama orchid backdrop that is 15 meters wide by 10 meters tall, and was inspired by the form of “Queen Sirikit” Cattleya orchid. The backdrop consists of all nine orchid genera: Cattleya, Cymbidium, Phalaenopsis, Mokara, Paphiopedilum, Vanda, Spathaoglottis, Dendrobium and Oncidium. A variety of animal sculpture surrounds the backdrop, including white peacocks with long tails made from Phalaenopsis orchids, Kinnaree which represents heavenly beauty, and deer made of orchids that stand gracefully to welcome guests. There are many more corners for photos to capture the colors and beauty of Thai orchids at Jewel Zone, M floor.
The exhibition’s highlight piece is the Black Lady’s Slipper, the only orchid in the world that can be viewed at the exhibition. The one-of-a-kind orchid was bred to advance the genus to achieve its color apex; thus, it is priceless. Along with other rare orchids, the Black Lady’s Slipper is displayed at Hall of Fame on M floor, which is decorated as a grandiose throne hall and garden filled with orchid arrangements by famous florist Pramote Prathan. His creations are exquisite and his pieces employs floral techniques such as threading made exclusively for this exhibition: flower trays and decorative pieces found in traditional ceremonies to showcase different branches of science of art that Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother has been promoting and preserving for growth and longevity. The exhibition also shows 88 episodes of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s royal missions. The general public can provide well wishes in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s 88th Birthday Anniversary.
On Fashion Hall on the 1st floor, there are orchids from nine genera as well as those showcased in the exhibition available for sale to aid orchid farmers who were affected by COVID-19 outbreak. The space is provided to the farmers rent-free to assist them. Proceeds from the orchid sales will go to The Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand Under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen. Other booths include those from the Department of Agricultural Extension, Department of Agriculture, and The Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand and The Support Arts and Crafts International Center of Thailand (Public Organization) or SACICT selling handicrafts to generate sustainable jobs and income.
Besides orchids, there is an exhibition from Thailand Post showcasing postage stamps with Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother in honor of Her 88th Birthday Anniversary. There are 32 sets of 75 stamps available for sale from Thailand Post in collaboration with iStamp. Visitors can take photos with special collections of orchids to create personalized stamps which are available in limited quantities for 100 baht. M Card and VIZ Card members can redeem 600 points to receive the offer. A receipt of 800 baht spent at Gourmet Garden dining zone can also be redeemed for the offer.
Moreover, there are nine commemorative coins honoring Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother and commemorative orchid coins by The Treasury Department. Stamp and coin collectors can gain more information from collectors at their booths. There are many more activities for orchid lovers, such as Thai orchid talk by Horticultural Science Society of Thailand on Sunday 9 August at 11.00 hours, and Orchid for Mom workshop on 7-12 August at 13.00, 15.00 and 17.00 hours. M Card members with combined receipt spending of 2,000 baht can join the workshop for free. There are exclusive workshops just for Bangkok Bank and AIS customers.
