BCC Strengthens Thailand's Underground Cable Leadership 720 km Installed Nationwide to Support the Next Generation of Smart Infrastructure
Reported by Mr. Sirasit Tatiyapantharak [#RETAILman | #RETAILmanX]

Bangkok Cable (BCC), Thailand's leading manufacturer and developer of electrical wires and cables, continues to reinforce its leadership in the country's underground power cable market by securing major projects from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). The company has expanded its underground power cable installation projects along mass transit routes and across major provincial cities, bringing its cumulative installed cable length to more than 720 kilometers. With advanced manufacturing technologies, internationally recognized safety standards, and a world-class electrical testing facility, BCC is committed to strengthening Thailand’s energy infrastructure. The company aims to support Smart City development and emerging technologies while contributing to safer, more livable urban environments.

Mr. Pongsapak Nakornsri, Chief Commercial Officer of Bangkok Cable Co., Ltd. (BCC), said that the company has played a significant role in advancing Thailand's infrastructure development by supporting the transition from overhead power lines to underground cable systems, helping improve energy security while creating a more organized and aesthetically pleasing urban environment.

Most recently, BCC was awarded underground power cable installation projects under the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), covering multiple mass transit routes across Bangkok and its surrounding areas, including the Purple Line, Orange Line, Green Line, Yellow Line, and Pink Line, as well as major roads in key provincial cities such as Chiang Rai, Surin, Phuket, and Trang. This year alone, the company has installed an additional 150 kilometers of underground power cables, bringing its cumulative installed cable length between 2023 and 2026 to more than 720 kilometers, further reinforcing BCC's position as a market leader in Thailand's underground power cable industry.

"With more than 60 years of expertise in manufacturing electrical wires and cables and extensive experience in managing more than 33 large-scale infrastructure projects, BCC has continued to earn the trust of customers across the country. Our manufacturing technologies are designed to deliver the highest standards of safety, durability, and performance. We provide customized cable solutions tailored to the specific requirements of each project through advanced manufacturing processes, the use of premium-quality materials, and rigorous testing that complies with international safety standards. At the same time, we remain committed to on-time project delivery and comprehensive after-sales support provided by our team of experienced engineers," said Mr. Pongsapak.

BCC's underground cable portfolio covers a wide range of applications, from low-voltage and medium-voltage cables to extra high voltage cables of up to 230 kilovolts (kV). The company's products are manufactured using high-purity copper to ensure superior conductivity and energy efficiency, while high-quality compounds are used in cable insulation and sheathing materials, including cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). In particular, BCC's 115kV high-voltage and 230kV extra high voltage cables have been tested and certified by KEMA Labs, one of the world's leading electrical testing institutes. The company's products also comply with Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) and have received the Made in Thailand (MiT) certification from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), further demonstrating BCC's commitment to quality and reliability.

The company also strengthens its quality assurance capabilities through its Extra High Voltage Testing Center, one of Thailand's largest electrical testing laboratories capable of testing extra-high-voltage power cables. The facility operates in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and complies with both TIS and IEC standards, ensuring the highest levels of product quality and safety.

Mr. Pongsapak added that the transition from overhead power lines to underground cable systems is a critical foundation for sustainable Smart City development. In addition to improving the visual appearance of urban areas, underground cable systems enhance public safety by reducing risks associated with accidents, natural disasters, heavy storms, and other external factors that may disrupt electricity supply. The transition also improves the stability and reliability of power distribution systems while establishing a stronger energy infrastructure capable of supporting the growth of intelligent technologies, the expansion of mass transit networks, and businesses that rely on highly efficient and uninterrupted power supply. Ultimately, these developments contribute to improving people's quality of life while enhancing the safety of both lives and property.

“At BCC, we are committed to supporting the development of modern, safe, and highly efficient electrical infrastructure for Thailand. As Smart Cities continue to expand and Thailand's economy continues to grow, we will continue investing in energy innovation to elevate the standards of Thailand's wire and cable industry to the international level while contributing to the country's sustainable development,” Mr. Pongsapak said.

Thailand has continuously launched new underground power cable development projects along urban mass transit corridors, with additional expansion plans already under consideration, including new routes around the Thonburi area and further developments along the Orange Line. BCC continues to see significant growth opportunities in the underground cable market and remains committed to developing new products while actively participating in future bidding opportunities to support Thailand's long-term infrastructure development.

Bangkok Cable Co., Ltd. (BCC) is Thailand’s leading manufacturer and developer of high-quality electrical wires and cables, established in 1964. The company serves seven key sectors, including transmission, distribution, construction and building, transportation and mobility, industrial, renewable energy, and automotive. Its solutions contribute to safety and future city development. BCC has supplied cables for numerous large-scale projects across both public and private sectors, including Dusit Central Park, Suvarnabhumi Airport Phase 2, underground cable systems, the Pink Line mass transit project, double-track railway projects in the eastern region, and the Ubolratana floating solar project. The company also supports the ASEAN Power Grid initiative, particularly the Luang Prabang Hydropower Project in Laos.
